Caleb Celebrates the Big 2!

Cannon finally came home and we finally got to celebrate Caleb's birthday "Cars" style!!  I created a "Cars" cake.  In the pic you can see Cannon's "is this thing going to stay standing?" face as we put the top of the cake on the pillars. (I had much bigger cake pans than the decorating instructions suggested.  The consequence was a very top heavy cake.)  We only stacked the cake for pictures...Luigi would be proud of our leaning tower of cake, right!?
He wasn't quite sure what he was supposed to do with that candle.
The cake was close enough but still too far away for his little hands to reach. I took it as a big compliment that he kept clamoring to get it. We had to keep it nice before he blew out the candle.
He also received a fun "Cars" book with stickers, pictures, stories etc., which daddy read to him.
What fun is cake if you can't share it?
After our friends were gone, Caleb was too wound up to sleep.  He just wanted to play with his new train set and eat cake the rest of the night.
Caleb received not only a train track from G & G, but a drawing from "Bampa" as well!

Caleb's Birthday Fun Postponed by Volcano!

Mt. Redoubt just won't stop. It keeps erupting and spouting ash all over the place.  I'm so annoyed right now.  Cannon is in Fairbanks, today is Caleb's 2nd birthday and we're putting cake and presents on hold until it is safe for daddy to fly home. It is overcast and there is a layer of ash on everything outside.  Church was canceled, the airport is closed--we're just waiting it out.  We did open a couple presents because Caleb kept dancing and pointing to them...VERY fun gifts from cousin Luke, Aunt Lolly and Gram-ma Mellie & Bam-pa Jeff.  He kept saying "choo-choo" and "train", learned how fun stickers can be and looked very handsome in his construction hat.
He learned that stickers are not for eating and quickly became proficient in sticking them to paper.
Wearing his hat and checking out his new tools.
When daddy gets home we'll sing and have cake! Woo-hoo!

Hurry Home Honey!

Saturday to Saturday = 7 long days without daddy. We miss you!

This weekend will be fun because daddy will be home AND because Caleb will turn 2. Here are a couple of sneak peeks at birthday prep going on:

Making a cake.  With feet and feet of snow outside, I've got nothing to do but make a rockin' "Cars" cake.  Caleb loves "Cars".
JoAnns sells Disney theme cloth book pattern packets.  The books are very simple to sew and they turn out super nifty looking.

Never mind the just-worked-out glow--notice the pride in my eyes at finishing a sewing project!

Snow outside can't stop me from having a skip in my step and spring on my toes!..I decided yellow was an appropriate color for this time of year and the flowers were a perfect final touch!
Hmmm...what happens when mommy is distracted while Skyping?....
If this isn't a guilty look, I don't know what is...
The guilty party receives a slobbery kiss...definitely punishment enough for him!

Here's a heart melter for ya...

That's right folks, he put down his beloved sippy to blow me a kiss...heart. melting!

Moose on the Loose

In most parts of the world evidences of spring happen as the ice melts, the snow thaws, the weather gets warm enough for a jacket and buds start appearing on trees.  Up in the north we know spring has arrived when we start getting 12 full hours of sunlight (which turns into 20 full hours by the end of summer) and when moose start meandering through our yards.  Happy Spring!

Scampering around in long underwear with daddy's hat...
Still sleeping with bum in the air.  Adorable. I wonder at what age we stop sleeping like that. Perhaps we'd all get better sleep if we assumed this position rather than back/side/stomach...
Can you tell where we went today? I wish I could have snapped a pic of Cannon and I together after our appointment.  We looked like a vampire couple...the non-vegetarian kind....muhahahaa! And we kept cringing at the light, nearly hissing and hunching as we cowered away from the brightness of the sunshine.  Here's my BlueSteel vampire face.
